Duke Health partners with regional health system CaroMont to build 2 hospitals in Charlotte area. Duke Health and CaroMont Health announced Wednesday that they are collaborating to construct two new hospitals in Mecklenburg County, which includes the city of Charlotte. The facilities, which are set to provide a combined 200 hospital beds, will be a significant expansion for Duke Health outside of the Triangle region, cementing the health system’s recent efforts to expand. Zaas and Chris Peek, president and CEO of CaroMont Health, told reporters that the collaboration is a “true partnership,” with the hospitals set to be owned and managed by a new company that is jointly-owned and led by Duke Health and CaroMont Health. According to the North Carolina 2026 State Medical Facilities Plan, Mecklenburg County needs 389 more hospital beds, and Peek said that most of the county’s advanced care is concentrated in the center of Charlotte.
